A Childhood Passion for Technology

Shravan and Sanjay Kumaran grew up in Chennai in a family that encouraged curiosity and learning. Their father, Kumaran Surendran, an IT professional, introduced them to the basics of computers and programming.

The brothers soon developed a strong interest in software. Instead of limiting themselves to using computers, they began exploring how applications were designed and built.

Shravan, the elder brother, and Sanjay, the younger, started learning programming through books, experimentation and repeated practice. Their early interest gradually developed into a serious ambition: creating mobile applications that people around the world could use.

The Birth of GoDimensions

In 2011, while still school students, the brothers established GoDimensions, an application development venture based in Chennai.

At the time, Shravan was around 13 and Sanjay around 11. Their decision to start a company at such a young age attracted attention because they were not simply learning to code; they were developing products and thinking about how to distribute them.

Their first major application was Catch Me Cop, a mobile game inspired by the traditional chor-police game. It was released on Apple’s App Store and gave the brothers an early opportunity to experience the process of building, testing and publishing software.

Their company website introduced GoDimensions as a mobile application development venture and identified Shravan as its co-founder and president and Sanjay as its co-founder and CEO.

Learning by Building Apps

The brothers did not stop after their first application. They went on to develop games, educational tools and lifestyle applications for mobile devices.

Some of their early projects included:

Their applications were made available across platforms including Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android Play Store. They also explored Microsoft’s Windows mobile platform.

In a 2016 report, it was noted that the brothers had developed more than 11 applications. Their work demonstrated their ability to experiment with different types of software rather than concentrate on a single category.

Turning a Bedroom into a Startup Office

Like many early-stage entrepreneurs, the brothers began with limited resources. They initially worked from home rather than operating from a conventional office.

Their father supported their efforts by teaching them programming basics and helping them obtain the equipment required for development. The brothers described their venture as a family-supported, or “dad-funded”, company.

In a Business Standard report, the young founders discussed their plans to expand the business, develop more applications and eventually establish an office.

They also received interest from people seeking application-development services, giving them an opportunity to consider commercial projects alongside their own products.

Recognition Beyond the Classroom

Their unusual journey attracted attention from technology publications, newspapers and entrepreneurship platforms.

In March 2013, YourStory featured the brothers, highlighting their early achievements and their work through GoDimensions.

They also appeared in media interviews and spoke at educational and technology events. Their experience became an example for students interested in coding, product development and entrepreneurship.

A 2016 report by The Economic Times described how the brothers learned programming through books, practice and experimentation.

A Lesson in Starting Early

The story of Shravan and Sanjay Kumaran stands out because they began building products before reaching adulthood. They demonstrated that young people can move beyond consuming technology and participate in creating it.

Their experience also highlights the importance of family encouragement, independent learning and practical experimentation. They did not wait until college or a professional career to explore entrepreneurship. They started with the resources available to them and learned by developing real applications.

The Legacy of the GoDimensions Journey

The early GoDimensions story remains a memorable chapter in India’s young entrepreneurship landscape. Shravan and Sanjay showed that age does not have to be a barrier to learning programming, building products or experimenting with a business idea.

Their journey from writing code at home to publishing applications for international users offers an important message to aspiring young innovators: start with curiosity, keep learning and turn ideas into something people can actually use.

Their story is ultimately about two brothers who saw possibilities in technology and decided to build rather than simply watch the digital world evolve.
